I work in the area south of Limoges in the Haute Vienne, and parts of Creuse and Correze. This area, whilst representing excellent value for money in terms of property, is very beautiful and manages to combine good weather - warm summers and mild winters - with being very lush and green.

The Limousin is known for its relaxed pace of life, and its preservation of the traditional way of life. The villages here are still very lively and farms are run along traditional lines, rather than being sacrificed to agribusiness. One of the joys of living here are the numerous excellent markets, where local producers sell everything from live ducks to fruit from the orchards, the famous walnuts to the wonderful local beef and dairy produce.
In the summer every village has its own festival to celebrate the harvest. There is also an excellent cultural life, with many art centres and festivals all over the Limousin in spring and summer. There is plenty to do for the sportsman, with golf courses, excellent equestrian centres - the Limousin is a horse-lover's paradise - and of course water sports on the incredibly beautiful Lac de Vassivière. Indeed, with lots of places to go swimming and picnic on your own private beach, the Limousin is known as the Lake District of France.
